Tinubu Congratulates Jimoh Ibrahim on Election as UN Budget Committee Chair

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, on his election as Chairman of the United Nations General Assembly Fifth Committee on Budget and Administration.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the development as a significant achievement for Nigeria and a testament to Ambassador Ibrahim's wealth of experience in governance, diplomacy and public service.

The President noted that Ibrahim's election comes at a critical period for the United Nations as the global body undertakes major financial realignments and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening accountability, efficiency and long-term sustainability.

According to Tinubu, the confidence reposed in the Nigerian diplomat by member states underscores his competence and capacity to lead one of the UN's most strategic committees.

"Your election to chair this important committee within weeks of official resumption at the UN validates your wealth of experience in public service, diplomacy, business leadership and governance, particularly as a member of the Nigerian Senate Committee on Budget and Appropriation and Chairman of Inter-Parliamentary Relations," the President said.

He added that Ibrahim's experience in both the public and private sectors uniquely positions him to provide the strategic leadership required to steer the committee's activities.

Tinubu further praised the ambassador's academic and professional credentials, describing him as a respected legal scholar with expertise in international taxation and business administration.

The President said Ibrahim has consistently demonstrated a deep understanding of global governance and financial systems, qualities he noted would be invaluable in overseeing the committee's responsibilities on fiscal management and institutional efficiency.

Expressing confidence in the ambassador's ability to deliver on his new mandate, Tinubu said the appointment would further enhance Nigeria's image on the global stage and contribute to the broader objectives of the United Nations.

"I am confident that your experience and unwavering commitment to excellence will justify your selection as our Permanent Representative and make Nigeria proud in the work of the Fifth Committee and in support of the broader objectives of the United Nations," he said.

The President congratulated Ambassador Ibrahim on what he described as a remarkable achievement and wished him success in his new role.

The United Nations General Assembly Fifth Committee is responsible for administrative and budgetary matters and plays a central role in the allocation and oversight of the organisation's financial resources.
