BIASE APC IS ALMOST FINISHED, AND GOVERNOR OTU MAY FACE A TOUGHER CONTEST IN BIASE - EGWU DANIEL

 





This may come as a shock to some people, but I have said it repeatedly that Governor Bassey Otu is likely to win Biase Local Government Area based on his goodwill, performance likewise ongoing projects and not because of the strength of the political structure in the LGA.

The Governor enjoys considerable public goodwill, and that, in my opinion, remains his greatest political asset in Biase. However, I do not believe the journey to victory will be as smooth as it could have been if the party structure was more united.

Unfortunately, many of the APC leaders in Biase appear to spend more time fighting both opponents and fellow party members than building a cohesive political family. 

The division between those perceived to be in the “Governor’s camp” and those outside it continues to deepen, despite His Excellency’s repeated emphasis on the People First Agenda.

To my knowledge Biase is one of the few local governments where there has been little visible effort to reconcile party members or heal wounds after the APC primaries. I do not believe Governor Otu supports disunity or exclusion within the party.

Suffice it to say that Politics should be about building bridges, not burning them. Leaders who emerge victorious after internal contests should work towards reconciliation rather than allowing bitterness and personal grievances to linger.

From my relationship with Governor Otu, one quality I have observed is his willingness to listen to criticism. I recall watching a video of his surprise visit to the Media Wing of the Governor’s Office, where he encouraged his media team to manage critics with maturity and restraint, regardless of how harsh the criticism might be. That, to me, reflects an important quality of leadership.

If the APC in Biase truly wants to maximize the Governor’s chances and strengthen the party for future elections, unity, reconciliation, and inclusion should become priorities.

The coming months will reveal whether this is an isolated incident or the beginning of a broader political realignment in Biase.

Recent political developments in Biase suggest that the political landscape is becoming increasingly dynamic. It seems that almost every day brings news of another defection from APC to PDP

The latest one happened on SUNDAY 19TH JULY 2026 in my ward (EHOM WARD) where more than 250 people defected from the APC to the PDP and EHOM WARD often produces the largest number of votes in Biase Local Government Area.

In my view, many of these defections are driven by the lackadaisical attitude of the APC leaders who appear unconcerned about the growing divisions within the party likewise Biase LGA but instead place excessive confidence in the advantages of incumbency.

Your Excellency, if the APC must depend primarily on the power of incumbency to secure victory in Biase LGA, then it raises questions about the strength of your supposed grassroots structure in my local government 

Strong political structures are built on unity, engagement, and the confidence of party members not solely on the advantages of holding office.
