Governor Otu Receives UNICROSS Technical Committee Report, Reaffirms Commitment to Staff and Students

 



The Governor of Cross River State and Visitor to the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has received the report of the Technical Committee on the Review of the Working Environment in UNICROSS, commending the Committee for its work and reaffirming his commitment to the welfare of staff and students of the University.

Governor Otu received the report on September 28, 2026, from the Chairman of the Committee, Bishop Prof. Uduak Effiong. The Committee was inaugurated by the Governor on July 6, 2026, to undertake a comprehensive assessment of UNICROSS and make recommendations towards addressing the challenges confronting the institution.

The Governor commended the Chairman and members of the Committee for their dedication and commitment to the assignment. 

He assured the University community that he would carefully study the report and look into the issues raised, particularly those relating to the welfare of staff and students.

Governor Otu reiterated his commitment to the continued development of UNICROSS, expressing his determination to provide the necessary support towards strengthening the University and ensuring that it continues to serve as an important centre of learning and manpower development for Cross River State.

He said that after studying the report and consulting with relevant stakeholders, the State Government would reconvene to consider the way forward.

Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Committee, Bishop Prof. Uduak Effiong, expressed appreciation to Governor Otu for the confidence reposed in the Committee and for providing the opportunity to undertake the assignment. 

He also commended the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Bassey, for her cooperation and support throughout the Committee’s engagement with the University.

The presentation of the report marks another important step in the Governor’s intervention in the affairs of UNICROSS and underscores his commitment to the welfare of the University community and the sustainable development of the institution.

The ceremony was attended by members of the Cross River State Executive Council; members of the Governing Council of UNICROSS, led by the Chairman, Ntufam Dr. Fidelis Ugbo; the Vice Chancellor of UNICROSS, Prof. Francisca Bassey, and members of the University Management; as well as Executive Council members of all the industrial unions in UNICROSS.

​UNICROSS Announces 2026/2027 Post-UTME Screening, Introduces 19 New Programmes

​The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has officially announced the commencement of its First Choice Admission Screening Exercise for the 2026/2027 academic session . The university has also unveiled 19 newly approved undergraduate academic programmes across its campuses. ​According to an official notice signed by the University Registrar, Dr. (Mrs) Catherine Ndifon Osai, eligible candidates include UTME applicants who chose UNICROSS as their First Choice and scored 150 and above in the 2026 UTME.
