The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Francisca Bassey, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, conducted an extensive inspection of ongoing infrastructural projects across the Calabar Campus of the University.
The inspection was aimed at assessing the progress and pace of work on key projects, as well as ensuring that ongoing developments are delivered according to the University’s standards and established timelines.
Among the projects inspected were the new cafeteria, the new University auditorium, the Software Engineering Department site and the ongoing remodelling of the University’s main gate.
At the various project sites, Prof. Bassey urged the engineers and site managers to expedite construction work to meet the established project delivery deadlines. She stressed the need for the prompt completion and handover of the facilities to address the University’s immediate need for additional lecture halls and other functional spaces, while also expanding its infrastructure for future academic and administrative purposes.
The Vice Chancellor further emphasised that the timely completion and furnishing of the facilities are critical ahead of upcoming accreditation exercises, noting that the University must continue to provide the infrastructure and facilities required to meet regulatory standards and support effective teaching and learning.
During the Vice Chancellor's inspection of the remodelled gate project being sponsored by Zenith Bank as part of its support for the development of UNICROSS, the Vice Chancellor charged the Site Engineer, Engr. Jacob Oladeji, to ensure that the completed structure meets the University’s required standards and aesthetic expectations. She also urged him to expedite work to ensure the project is completed within the expected timeframe.
Responding, Engr. Oladeji assured the Vice Chancellor that the completed gate would meet her expectations and that the project would be completed soon.
The remodelling of the main gate is expected to significantly enhance the outlook of the Calabar Campus and contribute to the improvement of the University’s physical environment.
It is an outcome of Prof. Bassey's efforts to attract private-sector investment and partnership towards the development of critical infrastructure at the University.
The inspection of projects underscore the commitment of the University Management, under the leadership of Prof. Francisca Bassey, to sustained infrastructural development and effective monitoring of ongoing projects to ensure quality, timely delivery and value for the University community.
The Vice Chancellor was accompanied on the inspection by the University Consultant, Engr. Romanus Ogar; the Director of Works, Engr. Alfred Iwara; the Director of Physical Planning (DPP), Mr. Evogor Esor; and other principal officers of the University.
