Work is progressing on the 28.5-kilometre Oban–Nsan Road project in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State, raising hopes of improved connectivity, easier transportation and expanded economic opportunities for residents.
The project, which connects Akamkpa Constituencies I and II, forms part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen road infrastructure and improve access to communities across the state.
During an on-the-spot assessment, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Dr. Pius Edet Ankpo, accompanied by the Senior Special Assistant, Engr. Okokon Inyang, confirmed progress on key components of the project.
Work completed so far includes road clearing, the construction of 20 culverts, 11 metric bridges and two roundabouts, representing significant milestones in the execution of the project.
The road, being constructed by Faithplant Global Construction Company Ltd., is expected to ease the movement of people and goods, improve transportation and create better opportunities for trade and other economic activities in communities along the corridor.
The project aligns with the infrastructure development agenda of Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s administration, which continues to prioritise road construction and rehabilitation as part of efforts to improve the living conditions of residents across Cross River State.
For the people of Akamkpa, the Oban–Nsan Road represents more than a major infrastructure investment. It offers renewed hope for better access to neighbouring communities, improved commercial activities and a stronger foundation for sustainable development.
As work progresses, residents look forward to the completion of the project and the lasting benefits it is expected to bring to Akamkpa and the surrounding communities.
